AICE helps Infection Preventionists improve patient care, meet TJC 2009 National Patient Safety Goals, reduce CMS non-reimbursable HAIs, and simplify mandatory reporting to NHSN.

AICE Testimonials

“AICE and Data Transfer have made the demonstration of improved outcomes due to SCIP measures a breeze. I have generated an auto report of the hysterectomy, total knee, total/partial hip and colon surgical infection rates. I find that annual infection rates for each of those categories plotted against the compliance with the antibiotic 1 hour timing and the correct selection of antibiotics show great correlation. As our compliance with core measures improves, our infection rate declines. I cannot imagine trying to report this stratified data without AICE.”

“3 greatest benefits of AICE Data Transfer to me and my facility are that it saves time entering individual case information into NHSN. Reduces clerical errors – OR data – AICE – NHSN (with little human interaction). Prepares us for when we will be able to transfer infections to NHSN.”

“We have used AICE for a long time and updated. Once data is entered, we are able to pull reports such as line lists, graphs, etc. to compare over time. We use the resistant organism screen to track our MRSA, VRE, ESBL and C-Dif which saves time with quarterly reporting. The surgical reporting is time saving as well.

Technical support is excellent and very responsive to calls and questions. They all are very knowledgeable, supportive, helpful, and are quick to respond if not available immediately. Couldn’t do it without them. Thanks.”

“Surgeon-specific SSI rates from AICE are reported to each surgeon, medical staff, and quality assurance committee, along with comparison rate data. This allows surgeons to be aware of benchmarking. Central-line catheter related bloodstream infections (SL-BRBs) were reported to Intensive Care Unit staff by graph and month-to-month comparisons. When we instituted C-Line bundles and patient safety goals this past year, we were able to show the reduction in CL-CRBs rate each month.”

“AICE saves a great deal of time with report generation. Creating auto-reports for Infection Control committee meetings is a breeze. Often someone will ask for a current rate compared to a historic rate. A few key strokes and the new rate is generated. Without AICE I would totally have to change what and how I report my surveillance data. I could no longer stratify SSI rates. I do not think I could have participated in APICs MRSA surveillance project. I could not look for body fluid exposures by device over time with the ease I do now. I probably could not report birth-weight stratified by NICU device-related infection rates.”

“We had a C.difficile outbreak which was highlighted well for physicians and administration on QTrendz Control Charts. We implemented multiple measures – and the successful results were easily showcased on the following month’s chart… a very nice way to present to the Hospital Board as well. They can see the whole story at a glance.”

“Our orthopedic SSI rate was 2.4% in 2006. With the recording and reporting abilities of AICE our orthopedic SSI rate is < 1.0% which has been maintained for over a year!! This, I estimate, is a savings of at least $36,000 or 6 cases (75% improvement).”

“AICE saves us time during an outbreak situation as many of the parameters we investigate are already in the system.”

Open Letter Posted on a Public Forum by an AICE User:

"I have used AICE® infection surveillance software from ICPA, Inc., since 1994. ICPs and physicians designed this software, and the company is most responsive to our feedback about what we would like to make our reports/AICE use more efficient. They continually make improvements and send them electronically for me to easily download. The charts, data display, rates, etc. are straightforward, crisp and easy for an audience to read. The surgeries I follow (CABG, hips and knees, etc.) are automatically downloaded from my O.R. database to my AICE database, so data input is minimal.

I'm delighted to use AICE for calculating rates for SSIs, ventilator-associated pneumonia, and central line-associated bloodstream infections. AICE automatically compares our rates to NNIS/NHSN rates.

I would be lost without this program. It is excellent and fulfills my needs and more. I also have the QTrendz® module, which automatically creates control charts from the infection rates, or any data one inputs. We used QTrendz to verify an outbreak of C. diff last winter. And, I can use it for falls, medications errors, and so on.

I also manage Employee Health, and we use Respond®, ICPA's program for employee health, which is equally as wonderful as AICE. These programs are built and updated by folks in our field, and it doesn't get any better than this!
I highly recommend you take a peek at AICE and/or Respond prior to making a decision. I'm sure there are other programs that are good, I just haven't observed any that give me as good results. Technical service is excellent.....I have used it often and every time have received the assistance I've needed in a timely, friendly manner.

Hope this helps. Go to www.icpa.net for info. Good Luck."

“I have used AICE Millennium (and prior AICE versions) for over 16 years.
AICE provides the rate-based, risk-stratified information I need to manage my infection control data and prevent HAIs. I support an urban, acute care unit with 340 beds.

AICE is developed by ICPA, which continually updates the software with new functions that include recommendations from APIC, JCAHO, CMS and others.

Other ICPs have asked me about relying on data mining to identify my infections versus targeted surveillance of at-risk populations. The problem with "data mining" alone is that it identifies isolates; it does not make epidemiological evaluation to determine if actual infection is present. Data mining companies don't make this clear when they are pushing their products to CFOs and others as a cost savings. I've even heard some less experienced ICPs whose facilities have data mining software or services make statements that indicate they do not fully understand the importance of identifying infections based on clinical definitions, and data validity.”

“AICE Basic Download has saved us hours of data entry each month. Instead of spending hours at the computer each day entering all surgical procedures that we focus on, I just make a few key strokes and there they are. It’s like magic! The best money spent is money spent to save time and accuracy.”

“It used to take me a full day to run monthly reports, but using AICE I can get them printed and mailed in two hours. One of the best reports is doing yearly surgeon specific reports. They get their individual rates compared with their peers. This specific feedback has resulted in a 30% decrease of rates.”

“The Medical Executive Committee and administration are very grateful for the reports given them. I could not do my job without AICE and Respond. AICE trends help to prevent infections and development of process interventions. We use it to pull reports for our health department, state and county.”
