Multi-use syndromic surveillance
system for hospitals and public health agencies. Besides its
comprehensive system for outbreak detection, both naturally
occurring and terrorist-related, it includes capabilities for
tracking injuries, reportable diseases, asthma, and disaster
victims. No manual data entry is required-RedBat automatically
imports existing data. |
RedBat System Requirements
RedBat is typically installed as a client/server application because its automatic scheduling features (data import, export and merge) require that related Windows network services are running 24/7. The server does not have to be an expensive server―just a computer that meets the minimum requirements below.
A dedicated server is not required. However, if databases larger than several hundred thousand records will be analyzed, a dedicated machine will optimize RedBat’s speed and performance.
A health department has the option of receiving data from hospitals or other point-of-care facilities via email or as an upload to an FTP server. RedBat data is encrypted before transmission regardless of the option chosen. However, if the agency wants SSL-secured transmission, the agency’s FTP server must have SSL capability.
If you plan to access the RedBat server over a wide area network (WAN) or intranet, you must have a high-speed connection (the equivalent of a T1 line with at least 1.5 Mbps in the server-to-client direction) and adequate bandwidth to serve simultaneous database requests from all client machines.
The Standard (LAN) Editions of AICE, Respond and/or RedBat can be installed on the same client and/or server. When installed on one server, current versions of all ICPA products must be maintained for each product to work properly. In order to access the most current releases, Annual Maintenance and Support Agreement (AMSA) subscriptions must be current for each ICPA product. With AMSA subscriptions, same platform upgrades are free.
Enterprise Editions of different ICPA products should be installed on separate servers but can be on the same wide area network.
Notes- Installation on the Server
• Only one version of RedBat can be run on a server. That is, there can be only one RedBat data directory on the server.
• Do not install an ICPA product on the same server with another company’s product that also runs Sybase. Running any older and newer Sybase products on the same server will affect the functioning of one or both programs.
Requirements for the Server (or PC designated as the server)
• Windows XP/2000/2003 or Vista (Novell is not supported)
> Microsoft Virtual Server is an acceptable alternative
• Network card with TCP/IP
• Pentium D or Core 2 Duo processor, or equivalent
• 1 GB RAM
• 1 GB available hard disk space
• CD-ROM drive
Requirements for the Client Machine
If RedBat is installed on a PC that is designated as a server, the PC can also serve as the client machine for one user.
• Windows XP/2000/2003 or Vista
• Network card (at least 100 Mbps) with TCP/IP
• Pentium 4 processor or better
• 512 MB RAM
• 500 MB available hard disk space
• CD-ROM drive
