Surveillance software helps flag outbreaks
Denton County health officials are using sophisticated computer
technology to aid in the detection of possible bioterrorism attacks
within the county.
Two HCA hospitals - Denton Regional Medical Center and Medical
Center of Lewisville - recently deployed syndrome surveillance software
that captures data from their emergency rooms and transmits it via
encrypted e-mail to the county health department in Denton for interpretation
and investigation.
The software system, known as RedBat, consists of the reporting
pieces used by the hospitals and an analysis piece used by the health
department.
